I wanted to touch base with the most common earning potential with online publishing. This plausible return comes from advertising that may be placed on blogs and websites that are self managed. Some blog sites do not allow for this kind of placement ie Wordpress and a few others, but in Weebly and Blogger, you may add items such as Adsense and a few other options. Let's start with Adsense.

About Adsense

I signed up with Adsense in March of 2013 but was not approved until May of 2013. My account just hit a total of $37 in July of 2016. That is a lot of pennies adding up in three years. This is not a great return on time and effort, but it is a start. It is motivation to do better and keep doing whatever it is I am doing to stash those potential dollars.

This service requires at least a dozen articles for the blog or website to qualify for the program. The site in question should also be at least six months old or they will continually reject applications.  I think mine qualified because I posted several solid blog posts in a short period. Keep trying, be patient, and keep writing. I will go into detail later about how to setup Adsense in a blog or website. You may find the Adsense program at https://www.google.com/adsense or in the settings menu under earnings for Blogger.com . (I highly recommend Blogger for a blog base as it is very simple to set up and the templates are attractive. Let Blogger teach you the ins and outs of page design and options.)

The process is slow and steady with this source. A viral article is rare, so I don't want you to think this success thing happens overnight. There are some publishers that have gotten lucky with their work and earn a steady income stream on a regular basis, but that is through good fortune and a ton of hours in front of their computer. They will spend hours searching out a good topic and editing a post. Do not count on Adsense alone to fill your bank account. You'll have to make progress one penny at a time in some cases. You will have to diversify and that will come later. Take the time to develop good content and the earnings will follow.

When Squidoo (where I started writing) was live, I earned about $35 for the holiday season. My earnings were through product postings and ad revenue the site generated. My article on Christmas window painting art had a great run of traffic and for that, I was rewarded with my share of the advertising pool. I basically earned a cut of the total dollars generated by ads posted on the entire web site. This article continues to earn a few pennies here and there. It may be found on the Hubpages site now. It does not have any product or web page links in it currently and it will be interesting to see what happens with this piece. Hubpages elected to raise it to a new site category and edit it for me. I am waiting with crossed fingers and toes to see if their improvements help my earnings.

In March of 2014, my best earnings with Adsense to date were a little over $5 for the month. I would have to do some research to see why that jumped the way it did. I am guessing I put a little better effort into my blogging and writing and promotions at the time. The earnings were specifically for content. Adsense for Youtube is available if you understand how to publish video blogs about your content. My videos to date have earned $.96 as of May 2016. They just merged the earnings with the Youtube platform and they are in a report on the Adsense site.

I realize these are small numbers and you may be baffled as to how a person can earn ANYTHING with their writing. The best advice I can give you is to write good content, honest content, and a LOT of content. The more you have out there on the web, the bigger your penny earnings will be. Specialize in a topic and run with it.

There is still more to go so bear with me while I organize what I am going to share next. I have a lot to discuss, but it needs to be in the right order for it to be understood and not overwhelming! Writing online can make your head swirl. Get used to a good routine and post great content. You can always edit it later to improve the dynamics of the piece.

How to Find Your Personal Niche

A niche is a topic that you believe in and you may know a lot about. It maybe something you are interested in, but want to know more about. It needs to be an original subject for you to share a unique perspective. This is how to get started in content marketing.

A niche is a distinct segment of a market. Let's say for instance, you are obsessed with cat eye reading glasses. They are a product that amuses you and they are something you seek out every time you go shopping for fun stuff. You may not be alone in this affection for the sleek, pointy readers. How can you turn this far out topic into your niche?

Think about all the points you might be able to make about these style of reading glasses. Research the item. You might want to expand the topic to sunglasses and fun wear. The cat eye glasses aren't necessarily for reading only, there may be a style that is fun and ties in well with a costume theme. Maybe, you could write about 50's poodle skirts and use the glasses to transform a sock hop gal into a smart looking, fun lady. Glasses are known to impress others as a sign of intelligence. These are the pieces to content articles you can develop into a small income generating articles and websites. 

Peek into the tiniest details when creating a niche

Take any subject and expand on it. See every angle of it and describe it as best you can. Keep writing. Open a blog and just keep posting. Post once a week, once a month. As time goes on, the writing produced gets better and the ability to fashion it into an attractive presentation comes with experience. I am constantly working on improving my posts.

Posts need to be updated occasionally to keep them fresh in the Google rankings. The further you grow your niche, the farther the reach of your topic. Google likes content and it likes original writing. Publish at least 600-1200 words in your posts. Give your readers something of value and something to learn. 

The potential for a blog post to make money is in the effort. Keep trying different things, but do not repeat your writing. Turn out original perspectives and opinions on a topic. Search out the best brands. Seek the best quality. Post articles about the manufacturer and their history. Write about the materials and process needed to create the item. By increasing your understanding of a particular subject, you are helping others understand it, too, when  you share about it. Good information will attract visitors and help your articles succeed.

Use great quotes in your writing. Find one that fits your article or the general feel of your writing. Quotes are generally found in the opening of a good piece, but I would like to leave one here for you in conclusion. Thank you for visiting.
